Model History
The Avenger is introduced in 2001 as an evolution of the older Colt, the sporty-military line Breitling had already been producing since the 1970s: the goal is to offer a watch with a more muscular and contemporary design, explicitly designed for the operational environment of fighter pilots and military air units, in continuity with the cockpit-instrumentation supplier role Breitling had held since the Royal Air Force of the Second World War. Thick cases, unidirectional knurled bezels for a secure grip even with gloves, extremely legible dials and a construction declaredly resistant to impacts immediately become the line's distinctive traits.
Over the course of the 2000s and 2010s the Avenger carves out an increasingly broad space in the catalogue, to the point of fully absorbing, in 2019, the role that had been the Colt's: the latter is in fact withdrawn from production right as the Avenger is relaunched with a renewed design, confirming itself as the brand's reference "sporty-military" line. Partnerships with real flight units further reinforce this identity: over the years special Avenger editions have been created dedicated, among others, to the US Navy, the British Red Arrows, the Italian Frecce Tricolori and the Swiss Air Force's Patrouille Suisse.
In 2023 the collection undergoes a deep restyling that updates its proportions, making them more balanced, and introduces, in the flagship versions, the manufacture calibre B01, technically bringing the Avenger closer to the Chronomat's level while maintaining a more aggressive aesthetic positioning oriented toward the military-aeronautical world compared with the "everyday" versatility of its sister line.

Main Executions
When in 2019 Breitling decided to discontinue the Colt, the choice was communicated as an explicit passing of the baton: from that moment the Avenger would cover the brand's entire sporty-military segment on its own, a role that until then had been shared between the two lines.
