Superocean Heritage

The faithful recovery, since 2007, of the proportions of the original 1957 Superocean

Model History

The Superocean Heritage is introduced in 2007 as Breitling's answer to the growing demand for "vintage-inspired" watches, a phenomenon that in the 2000s crosses the entire world of Swiss high watchmaking. Rather than limiting itself to a simple nostalgic restyling of the Superocean then in production, the brand chooses to start again from the exact proportions of the first 1957 generation: a case with soft, rounded lines, a domed sapphire crystal, a unidirectional rotating bezel with a colored insert and an essential three-hand dial, in sharp contrast with the more technical and contemporary setup of the "modern" Superocean that remained in parallel in the catalogue.

The line's success consolidates progressively over the following decade, to the point of earning the Superocean Heritage its own autonomous collection identity within the Breitling catalogue, distinct — while sharing the same 1957 historic root — from the main Superocean: a distinction the brand itself maintains today with two separate product lines and their own listings on the official website. In 2017 the "Heritage '57" series is introduced, which takes up in an even more literal way the compact dimensions and clean aesthetics of the original 1957 watch.

The line's most recent generations, renewed in 2025, keep the vintage aesthetic framework but update the technical component with high scratch-resistant ceramic bezels and COSC chronometer-certified manufacture movements, confirming a positioning halfway between a recreational diving watch and an everyday style object, more oriented toward retro aesthetics than extreme underwater use.

Fun Fact

Although both are inspired by the 1957 Superocean, the Superocean Heritage and the modern Superocean today follow opposite philosophies: on one side a retro aesthetic faithful to the past, on the other a push toward ever more extreme technical limits — a rare case in the watch world of a single forebear giving rise to two parallel collections with diverging design logics.
