Heritage
Model History
Heritage is the smallest, most jewellery-like segment of the watch catalogue made by Fossil Group under Burberry license: compact cases, designed mainly for a female audience, where the Nova check motif — the famous check pattern born as the trench coat's lining in the 1920s — does not stay a hidden detail, as in The City, but becomes the true subject of the dial.
Right in the years this line was being produced, according to various press sources Burberry sharply reduced the use of the check motif on its fashion products, due to its excessive spread and growing association with counterfeiting. On Heritage watches, however, the check continued to appear explicitly: a controlled, small-scale use, far from the overexposure the brand was trying to correct elsewhere.
Sizes range from the 38 mm of the more structured versions, such as the quartz three-hand BU9038, down to smaller executions around 26–32 mm, often offered with gold-tone or rose-tone PVD treatment and a leather strap printed with the check motif or a steel bracelet. Like the rest of the Burberry catalogue, Heritage also ceased production at the end of 2017, when the license with Fossil Group was not renewed.

Main Executions
Heritage was born and lived in the same period in which Burberry, according to various press sources, was scrambling on the fashion front over the excessive spread of its check, which had come to be associated with widespread counterfeiting in the UK: on watches, however, the brand kept using it openly, as an element of immediate recognizability on a product less exposed than clothing.
