Archimèdes by Milus
Collection History
The Archimèdes traces its roots to one of the most influential inventions in the history of dive watches: the "Super Compressor" case, patented in the mid-to-late 1950s by EPSA (Ervin Piquerez S.A.) and also adopted by Milus in its own dive models of the 1970s. The principle is as simple as it is effective: the more water pressure increases at depth, the more the caseback is compressed against the gaskets, making the case progressively more watertight the deeper it goes — the exact opposite of the logic of the static gaskets used in conventional dive watches.
In 2019, on the occasion of the brand's centenary, Milus brought this legacy back to life with the Archimèdes by Milus collection, part of the ICONIC line dedicated to rediscovering the historic archive. The 41 mm case in 316L steel, with a strongly domed sapphire crystal and brushed finishes alternating with polished details, picks up the vintage language of 1970s divers without giving up modern technical standards, including a discreet helium escape valve positioned at 9 o'clock.
The most recognizable feature remains the double crown, distinctive of the original Super Compressor design, paired with a bidirectional internal 60-minute bezel operated by the second crown and coated in Super-LumiNova for legibility even in the absence of light. The collection's most significant recognition came in 2021, when the Orange Coral variant was selected among the finalists of the Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Genève in the Diver's category, bringing the relaunched Milus into the spotlight of independent fine watchmaking for the first time.

Main Executions
The "Super Compressor" system that inspired the collection was devised by EPSA, a company specialized precisely in producing cases on behalf of several Swiss brands: the double crown is therefore not an exclusive Milus invention, but a design element shared across the entire golden age of vintage dive watches, of which the Archimèdes is today one of the most faithful interpretations.
