Excalibur
Model History
According to the manufacture's official account, the idea for the Excalibur collection comes from a gift received from a client: a miniature sword inspired by the Arthurian legend, which suggests to the brand the name and the imagery for a new line meant to carry forward the technical legacy of the founding Sympathie and Hommage collections in a more modern and aggressive language. The line debuts in 2005 with a round case featuring triple lugs and a crown guard, a multi-faceted fluted bezel and — above all — a new exclusive caliber, the RD01SQ, a fully skeletonized double flying tourbillon that immediately becomes the collection's technical and aesthetic signature.
In the following years the range expands rapidly: in 2006 the first automatic versions arrive with titanium cases and carbon bezels, in 2007 a skeletonized chronograph version debuts, while in 2011 the line gains a high-complication model with perpetual calendar, retrograde date and flying tourbillon. In 2013 the Excalibur Spider Skeleton Double Flying Tourbillon introduces a cable construction reminiscent of a spider's web, while the caliber RD101 "Quatuor", with four coupled balances to offset the effects of gravity, pushes the line to the peak of the brand's technical complication.
From the mid-2010s the Excalibur also becomes the home of the brand's motor-racing collaborations, with the Spider Pirelli and Spider Huracán variants made in collaboration with Pirelli and Lamborghini Squadra Corse, which borrow materials and colors from the racing world. Under the same Excalibur umbrella, the Knights of the Round Table sub-line was also born in 2013, dedicated to métiers d'art and covered on a separate page given its own standing.

Celebrated References
The line's name recalls the legendary sword of King Arthur: a reference the manufacture later took up ever more explicitly, eventually dedicating — under the same Excalibur umbrella — an entire sub-collection to the Knights of the Round Table.
