Model History
The Saxonia debuted on 24 October 1994 alongside the Lange 1 and the Tourbillon "Pour le Mérite," in the collection that marked A. Lange & Söhne's return to the world watchmaking stage. If the Lange 1 became the public face of the relaunch with its off-center dial, the Saxonia represented its other side: a classic centre-hands watch, clean dial, rhombus indices and small seconds, meant to show that the manufacture could be as essential as it was spectacular.
For years the Saxonia remained a quieter presence in the catalogue, less photographed than the Lange 1 but appreciated by connoisseurs precisely for its restraint: trade critics described it as one of the brand's "supporting stars." The turning point came in 2011 with the Saxonia Thin, an ultra-thin two-hand version that became, at the time of its launch, the thinnest watch Lange had ever produced — an exercise in reduction to the essential that further strengthened the line's identity.
Over time the family has grown with variants such as the Saxonia Outsize Date (with the large two-disc date display), the Saxonia Dual Time (dual time zone) and the Saxonia Moon Phase (high-precision moon phases). The historic 35 mm hand-wound line remained in production until 2025, when it gave way to a renewed 34 mm 1815 collection — a sign that the brand's catalogue keeps evolving around these two souls: the off-center Lange 1 and the classic Saxonia.

In its Thin version, calibre L093.1 measures just 2.9 mm thick — a result that ranks the Saxonia's movement among the slimmest the manufacture has ever produced, in sharp contrast with the brand's reputation as a specialist in large, showy complications.
