Model History
Presented in 2025, the 1816 line is the most explicit tribute Louis Moinet has ever dedicated to its ideal founder: the name itself takes up the year the compteur de tierces was completed, the instrument recognized by Guinness World Records as the first chronograph in history. Unlike most of the maison's catalogue, produced in editions limited to a few dozen pieces, the 1816 was conceived as Louis Moinet's first unnumbered collection, designed for a broader, continuous production — a shift of pace that the maison itself has called its most significant launch since the Memoris of 2016.
The dial faithfully echoes the three-counter layout of the original instrument, with the totalizers shifted compared with a conventional chronograph — small seconds at 11 o'clock, a 30-minute counter at 1 o'clock and a 12-hour counter with Roman numerals at 6 o'clock — and a peripheral minute scale graduated every six units, exactly as on the historical compteur de tierces. The integrated titanium bracelet, the first ever made by the maison for a series watch, reinforces the sporty, contemporary character of this reinterpretation.
At its heart beats the LM1816 caliber, a manual-winding movement developed specifically by manufacturer Concepto and assembled by the Mercier family, with 330 components, large exposed bridges and a swan-neck regulator — a finish never before used on a Louis Moinet movement. In 2026, to mark the 210th anniversary of the 1816 invention, the line was expanded with a new execution featuring a champagne-colored dial, alongside the original silver-dial version.

The crown of the 1816 is decorated with a fleur-de-lys, the symbol of the city of Bourges where Louis Moinet was born: a heraldic detail that directly ties the contemporary watch to the biography of the real watchmaker after whom the entire maison is named.
