Special Projects
Line History
Special Projects is, among MB&F's lines, the youngest of all: it is presented in 2025, coinciding with the brand's twentieth anniversary, as a collection separate from the Horological Machines and the Legacy Machines. MB&F describes it in its own official communications as born from "dormant projects, sketched out over the years, seemingly nonsensical at the time — flashes of unrealized ideas": ideas and sketches accumulated over twenty years of activity that, for one reason or another, had never found a precise place in any of the existing collections, and that with Special Projects finally find a dedicated space. The brand calls them "indefinable watches," precisely to signal that this is a line designed to not be immediately traceable to the established aesthetic codes of the Machines.
The line's first chapter is the SP One, presented in 2025 as the collection's official debut. Unlike the sculptural Horological Machines and the classic yet still dramatic Legacy Machines, the SP One presents itself as a dress watch of contained dimensions, about 38 mm in diameter, designed for more discreet everyday use compared to the rest of MB&F's production: a choice that the trade press has read as a sign of the brand's wish to explore, after twenty years of conspicuously conceptual Machines, a more minimal and wearable register too, without however giving up its own technical identity. The reference is offered in platinum and in rose gold.
Being a line born only recently, Special Projects today counts a single reference family, the SP One in its various metal executions, but the structure in which MB&F presents it — a "chapter" that opens the way to later chapters — suggests that this is a project designed to grow over time, following the same model by which the Horological Machines and Legacy Machines themselves gradually expanded reference after reference starting from a first founding model.
Line Characteristics
The Line's Executions
The launch of Special Projects comes in the same year that MB&F celebrates twenty years since its founding: the brand presented the new line precisely as a way of looking back at its own archive of never-realized ideas, turning twenty years of shelved notes and sketches into an entirely new chapter of its catalog.
