Collection History
The 777 Aquaflex was born at the end of the 1960s, at a time when European watchmaking was experimenting with case shapes increasingly far from the classic round form: cushion, barrel, and indeed the distinctive "chocolate bar" shape with chamfered sides that characterizes this Mondia model. It is a design that reflects the era's taste for more sculptural lines and solid volumes, in a decade in which the brand — then part of the Movado-Zenith-Mondia galaxy — was investing decisively in renewing its catalogue's aesthetics.
The name "Aquaflex", paired with the reference number 777, suggests a sporty, rugged positioning, consistent with the wave of sturdy "everyday" watches increasingly popular at the time among non-specialist buyers. Like other Mondia models of the period, the 777 Aquaflex had its main run between the late 1960s and the 1970s, before going out of production as the brand progressively scaled back in the following decade.
Today the 777 Aquaflex is not part of Mondia Swiss's current collections, but it remains a reference for collectors of mid-range vintage Italian and Swiss watchmaking, appreciated above all for the originality of its case compared with the more conventional production of the time.

The nickname "chocolate bar", by which collectors and enthusiasts still identify this model today, aptly describes the original idea: a case with solid, squared-off volumes, at the opposite end of the spectrum from the thin, classic lines that had characterized Mondia's first decades of production.
