Chimera
History of the line
Chimera was born in 2012, when U-Boat presented the U-51 Chimera Bronze at Baselworld: a watch with a bronze case left to age naturally, a two-level dial and a specially treated leather strap, produced in a limited edition of 300 pieces. The model was born within the "Authentic Vintage" concept devised by Italo Fontana: not a simple graphic imitation of the past, but watches designed to look "lived-in", with a patina that genuinely forms on the metal over time.
The name Chimera, borrowed from the hybrid mythological creature, fits the line's underlying idea well: a body with a vintage design language — bronze, treated leather, antiqued details — built on a case and technical set-up that are fully contemporary, in keeping with the rest of the U-Boat catalogue.
Over time the Chimera line has expanded while keeping the large case, the crown protected by a cap and prominent pushers as its identifying features, with steel and bronze variants up to 46 mm in diameter. In 2025, to mark the brand's 25 years in business, U-Boat presented the Chimera 25°, a limited edition of 25 pieces with a 46 mm AISI 316L steel case, Damascus steel bezel, 18-carat yellow gold inserts, ETA 2824 Top Soigné automatic movement and an ostrich leather strap handcrafted in Tuscany — a synthesis of the line's two souls, the vintage one of its origins and the more precious, celebratory one.

Founding models
Unlike many "vintage" reinterpretations that merely reproduce a period look graphically, the original Chimera relied on the genuine oxidation of bronze in contact with air and skin, so that each piece would end up ageing slightly differently from all the others.
