Deep Space Tourbillon

The triple-axis tourbillon that moves Halter's imagery from Verne's 19th century to contemporary science fiction

Model history

Unveiled in 2013, the Deep Space Tourbillon marked an evolution in Halter's style: the 46 mm titanium case keeps recognisable details such as the riveted crown, but the centre of the dial, protected by an imposing sapphire dome, houses a tourbillon with three concentric cages with different rotation periods — 40 seconds, six minutes and thirty minutes — giving it an almost orbital look, often compared to science-fiction spaceship imagery. The hand-wound VH113 calibre provides a 55-hour power reserve; despite its generous size, the low weight of the titanium case (about 90 grams) makes it surprisingly light on the wrist.

The design of the triple-axis tourbillon under the large sapphire dome has often been likened by enthusiasts to the look of space stations imagined in film and television science fiction, a natural evolution of Halter's passion for imaginary worlds that had already inspired the Antiqua fifteen years earlier.
