MB (Martin-Baker)

The watch born to survive a high-altitude ejection

Model History

In 2007 Martin-Baker — the British company that since the postwar period has supplied over 70% of the ejection seats used by air forces worldwide — approaches Bremont with an unusual request: to create a mechanical watch able to survive a real ejection from a military fighter, held to the same reliability criteria demanded of life-saving equipment. Out of this is born, in February 2009, the MBI, a watch initially reserved exclusively for those who had actually used a Martin-Baker ejection seat to save their life: each piece was engraved with the owner's ejection identification number, and among its first owners were military pilots, senior air force officers and even members of the US Congress.

Alongside the exclusive MBI, Bremont introduces the MBII, designed to open the same constructive philosophy to a broader audience of enthusiasts and aviators. The MBII inherits the collection's characteristic colored-barrel case — orange, green, anthracite — which directly recalls Martin-Baker ejection seats, together with the collection's technical heart: the patented Trip-Tick® case, in which the movement is suspended on a shock-absorbing rubber ring able to absorb the energy of extreme accelerations, itself enclosed in a soft-iron Faraday cage protecting it from magnetic fields. In 2014 comes the MBIII, which adds a dual time zone GMT function designed for the global operational scope of military pilots.

Over time the MB collection becomes the quintessential symbol of the bond between Bremont and the aeronautical world, officially adopted by units such as the US Navy's Sunliners (2011) and the RAF's No. 100 Squadron flying the Tornado GR4 (2014), up to the most recent models in the Altitude family, which from the 2020s onward reinterpret in a thinner, more contemporary key the same Trip-Tick case born for the MBI, keeping its constructive legacy intact.

Fun Fact

In 2015 American television host Jimmy Fallon gave away an MBI live on his show to his father-in-law — a pilot who had actually ejected from a military aircraft thanks to a Martin-Baker seat, thereby entering the exclusive circle of the model's "authorized" owners.
