Locman
Brand History
Locman was founded in 1986 on the island of Elba on the initiative of Marco Mantovani, born in 1961 in Marina di Campo, and Fulvio Locci: the brand's very name comes from merging their surnames, "Locci" and "Mantovani." The company initially operated as a design firm for major Swiss watchmaking houses and as a third-party manufacturer, before developing an identity of its own.
1987 marked a turning point with the agreement linking Locman to the historic Milanese manufacture Genesi, which allowed the company to design and produce watches under its own brand. In 1990 Carlo Crocco, founder of Hublot, acquired a stake in the company, fostering its international development. In 2006 Mantovani also founded the Scuola Italiana di Orologeria (Italian School of Watchmaking), evidence of the brand's investment in training and Italian watchmaking.
From its earliest years Locman stood out for its use of materials that were, at the time, uncommon in watchmaking, such as titanium, carbon fiber and aluminum, chosen to combine lightness and strength. Production still takes place today on the island of Elba, in a plant described as zero-emission, while the brand's distribution network has over time grown to around 1,200 authorized retailers and seven single-brand boutiques worldwide.
